245 | On WikiTree as Coull Biography Anne COUL was born in Stoneyford, Rafford, Morayshire, on 8 April 1860. Her parents were John COULL, carter and Isabella (BROWN) COULL. Her father was able to sign the birth registration.[1] Annie's surname varies enormously in the spelling for her childrens' births – COLE, COWELL, and COULL are the most frequent, also COUL. We do know that her mother Isabella COULL, a resident of Lefroy, registered the births of several of her grandchildren. It is probable that the three COULL, witnesses to Annie's marriage are family members. Annie was just 2 years old when she, her parents, and baby brother arrived in Tasmania: John COULL, ploughman from Morayshire arrived in Tas from Glasgow on 11 January 1862, aged 28 on Lady Edigia, with Mrs Isabella COUL, age 25, house servant, son Alexander 4 mths and daughter Annie age 2.[2] John COLLETT (30), labourer (signed “his X mark”) and Ann COUL (23), were married “in the House, 'Enfiels Farm', near Lefroy” on 13 April 1883, by the Rev. J. MOSLING. The witnesses were J. COULL, John COULL and Kate COULL.[3] John and Annie had 12 children, born between 1882 and 1905; the first two at George Town, and the rest at Wynyard. Annie Lumsden COLLETT (died 1955, age 97) on gravestone, with husband (died 1918, age 65) and children, Susan (died 1916, age 20) and John (died 1916 in England, aged 18) at Carr Villa Cemetery, Launceston.[4] Research Notes Annie's birth information is confirmed in the Tasmanian records, with grandmother Isabella COULL registering several of Annie’s children’s births; and John COULL being a witness at Annie’s wedding. Additionally, when son Hector was born, Annie Lumsden COULL was aged 44, and born in Scotland and had been married at Lefroy in 1883.[5] Sources ↑ BIRTH: Scotlands People - COULL, ANN; mother;s maiden surname BROWN; F; 1860; 140 / 9; RAFFORD [Moray] ↑ Coul, Annie.
